Adjusting to Changes

My daughter started day care in mid-March.  We wanted her to get exposed to it because once baby #2 comes she will have to go to day care full time.

It started out fine.  I would drive her there, and she’d be talking to me on our way there.  We’d arrive at the facility and drop her off, and she would run to the toy area and start playing with the toys.

Now, I drive her there, and she’s already crying in the car.  When I drop her off she’s crying and screaming.  She won’t let go off me and starts hugging my legs pleading me not to leave. The day care workers tell me that she cries constantly and that they have to carry her and actually have 1-1 with her.  She doesn’t want to eat, so they personally offer the food to her after all the children eat.

Seeing this sudden change in your child’s personality would make any parent worry.  I am now questioning the day care facility.  For example:

1.) Is there something wrong with the day care facility?

2.) Is there a person that is treating her badly?

3.) Maybe I should find a different day care facility.

4.) My daughter only attends day care in the afternoons 2x a week…maybe this is what is causing the long adjustment period.

I guess all of the above is normal for a parent to question when this occurs.  No parent wants to see their child dislike day care.  To make things worse for me, I got “the call” the other day  from the day care facility saying my daughter had an accident.   This call was like icing on the cake to all the doubts and questions I had regarding the day care facility we chose to have our daughter attend.

Have any of you experienced this before?  Seems like both my daughter and I will need to adjust to the idea of Day Care.  Changes are always difficult not only for the child but also the parent as well.
